TRUDEAU’S ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY CHANGES NOTHING—WARKENTIN CALLS FOR A CARBON TAX ELECTION
Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Grande Prairie-Mackenzie, issued a statement addressing what he described as the “devastating legacy” of Trudeau’s Liberal government:
“Justin Trudeau may finally be leaving, but nothing has really changed, “said Warkentin. “Let’s be clear, every Liberal MP and every potential Liberal leadership contender fighting for the top job helped Justin Trudeau break the country over the last 9 years.”
Warkentin highlighted key Liberal policies, supported by every Liberal MP, that have devastated Canadians:
- The implementation of the “job-killing, inflationary carbon tax,” with plans to quadruple it in the next five years, a measure endorsed by Mark Carney.
- Out-of-control government spending, ballooning debt, and immigration policies lacking proper management.
- Housing policies that doubled the cost of homes, leaving many Canadians unable to afford a place to live.
- Justice reforms such as catch-and-release bail and house arrest for repeat offenders, which he said contributed to a 50% increase in violent crime, a 116% rise in gun crime, and a 250% surge in hate crimes.
Warkentin called on Canadians to question the motives behind the tone shift in Liberal MPs:
“Why do those, who have unanimously supported Justin Trudeau, suddenly have a change of heart? Their only objection is that he is no longer popular enough to win an election and keep them in power. Now, while leaderless Liberals focus on saving their jobs and fighting each other for power the country spirals out of control. This Liberal government is out of control.”
Warkentin called for Canadians to reject this attempt to shift blame solely onto Trudeau and demand accountability from the entire Liberal Party:
“With Trudeau out of the way, NOTHING has changed. This cannot go on. Canadians need a carbon tax election now. Canadians want to choose between the NDP-Liberal coalition that taxes your food, punishes your work, doubles housing costs, and unleashes crime and drugs in your community, or Common Sense Conservatives who will axe the tax, build homes, fix the budget, and stop the crime.”
