Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Grande Prairie – Mackenzie, responded to the announcement of a new plan by the Trudeau Liberals that keeps Peace Country workers and businesses in limbo.
“Canadian workers and businesses need to know what their government is doing to get our economy restarted. They cannot afford more extensions and delays,” Warkentin said. “Peace Country residents are telling me they want to get back to work and shuffling Canadians between programs is not a plan.”
The Trudeau Liberals intend to transition Canadians from the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) to Employment Insurance (EI) and create three new benefits while ignoring constructive solutions proposed by the Conservatives like the Back to Work Bonus. The Back to Work Bonus would ensure workers have the support they need to transition back into the workforce and ensure that local businesses are able to fill shifts and get back on their feet.
“It is absolutely shameful that the Prime Minister has announced their intention to make these changes mere days after locking out MPs and proroguing Parliament to block investigations into Prime Minister Trudeau and the Liberals corrupt behaviour.”
“My constituents have serious questions about this transition and how these new programs will affect them. They deserve the transparency and answers that come from open and honest inquiry in the House of Commons.”
“Conservatives will continue to hold the Trudeau Liberals to account and fight for the answers and support that Canadians deserve. We know that our economic recovery will be driven by Canadians’ hard work, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit.”
