One year after the Liberals asked Canadians to trust them, the deficit is three times what they promised, the growth hasn’t followed and taxes are already going up.
“Today’s fiscal update is a clear sign the Liberal economic plan has failed,” said Rona Ambrose, Leader of the Official Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. “Canadians are worse off today than they were a year ago. The government is spending at record levels and taxes are higher, yet more people are unemployed and there are fewer full-time jobs.”
The Government today admitted growth is going to be lower than even their own projections from the March Budget, thanks in part to their new rules that make it harder for Canadians to afford a home. The Liberals’ only solution to these problems is more spending and more tax hikes on Canadian workers, families, and job creators.
“Today, we heard a lot of excuses for the failed Liberal plan and more claims that growth is just around the corner if only they spend a little more of your money,” added Ambrose. “The reality is that spending more money on a failed plan just means Canadians will be stuck with even more debt and still higher taxes.”
The Liberals are out of touch with regular Canadians. Instead of recognizing the real challenges Canadians face in managing the household budget or finding a good job, they prefer to send their Finance Minister to $1,500-a-plate fundraisers.
“We all know that they can’t spend their way to prosperity. That is true for families and it is true for governments,” said Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Grande Prairie – Mackenzie. “This massive new spending will lead to higher debt, higher taxes and drive the Canadian economy into the ground. The Liberals are betraying the next generation of Peace Country residents by placing a massive financial burden on their shoulders. This is unconscionable!”
“Canada has a jobs crisis. The Parliamentary Budget Office released information this week detailing how bad the crisis is,” Warkentin added. “Since the Liberals were elected one year ago, not one new full-time job has been created in Canada. It is a disaster and the Liberals are making the situation worse by increasing taxes for small-business owners and racking up unnecessary debt.”
