WARKENTIN CALLS ON CONSTITUENTS TO SHARE THEIR CONCERNS OVER NEW LIBERAL DRYWALL TARIFF

By November 15, 2016No Comments

OTTAWA – November 15, 2016

In September, a tariff was levied on drywall coming from the U.S. to Western Canada, spiking prices anywhere from 105 to 276 per cent and making it more expensive to buy or renovate a home in the Peace Country.

Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Grande Prairie–Mackenzie, is calling on anyone affected by the Trudeau Government’s new tax on drywall to share their concerns with him.

“This new tax has been devastating to homebuilders, contractors, prospective home buyers, and first time homeowners. Hardworking families in the Peace Country should not have to pay more for their products just to fill government coffers,” Warkentin said.

“I will be submitting a brief to the Canadian International Trade Tribunal on Thursday, November 17th, at noon. This brief will outline how this tariff has impacted constituents and businesses in my riding,” Warkentin said. “Please email me at chris.warkentin@parl.gc.ca if you can provide a statement of impact, information or comments on how this tariff has affected you.”
