Clean Water and Wastewater Fund implemented by Conservative Government provides $9 million for transmission line.

OTTAWA, September 7, 2016 – Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Grande Prairie – Mackenzie and Official Opposition Critic Responsible for Agriculture, was pleased to see funds flow to an essential infrastructure project in the Peace Country . The Town of Wembley will receive $9.045 million from the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund for the construction of the West Corridor Water Transmission Line Phase 1.

“I’m pleased that Wembley will be receiving this important funding for its water infrastructure,” Warkentin said. “I have been proud to advocate for this essential project. It was essential that the Town of Wembley had a long-term reliable source of water, I will be excited to see this project completed.”

The transmission line from the City of Grande Prairie will reduce reliance on well water and strain on aquifers in the Wembley area. The Clean Water and Wastewater Fund was initiated by the Conservative Government in 2014 to provide $2 billion in funding over two years for projects that will contribute to the rehabilitation of both water treatment and distribution infrastructure and existing wastewater and storm water treatment systems; collection and conveyance infrastructure; and initiatives that improve asset management, system optimization, and planning for future upgrades to water and wastewater systems.

“Our Conservative Government believed in the importance of funding essential local infrastructure that improves access to much needed utilities,” Warkentin continued. “This partnership between our communities in the Peace Country will provide better services for all and ensure that investment from all levels of government will be used to its greatest potential.”
