Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Grande Prairie – Mackenzie, called the selection of Erin O’Toole as the next leader of the Conservative Party of Canada a cause for optimism for Peace Country residents, Albertans, and Canadians across the nation.
“Erin O’Toole understands why Westerners are feeling alienated in Canada,” Warkentin said. “He understands that Albertans and Peace Country residents want to get back to work and feel they are blockaded with overregulation from the Liberal government that tells them they have no place in Canada’s future.”
“That’s why on day one, Mr. O’Toole set out to address the serious national unity concerns Canada faces with Justin Trudeau. He believes that Western alienation is so significant that we do not have a day to spare in fixing the fissures harming our nation.”
“I look forward to building a strong team of Canadians with Mr. O’Toole, and a party that welcomes all Canadians, as Mr. O’Toole describes,
‘I want more Canadians to see a Conservative when they look in the mirror – union members, small business owners, new Canadians, and more women. If you want the opportunity to work hard to provide for your family. If you want to stop insiders getting ahead while you are falling back. If you are proud of what we produce in this country – whether it is the resources in the ground or the ideas in our heads – you should be voting Conservative.’
“I strongly believe that Erin O’Toole is a unifying force in Canadian politics and cares about the future of Alberta in our confederation. I trust that all Canadians will see that his leadership brings a renewed focus on providing solutions to the struggles and concerns of all Canadians, including those in the Peace Country and Alberta.”
